Bacon Jam Blooming Onions

Ingredients

  • 6 large yellow onions
  • 5 sticks of salted butter
  • Seasoning of your choice ( I used John Lindsey’s garlic butter )
  • 1 jar bacon jam ( I used Midwest fresh )

Instructions

  • Light grill and get it to 300 degrees
  • Set it up for indirect cooking , cut one end off each onion
  • Then cut into 8 wedges only cutting 3/4 of the way down
  • Place into greased baking dish
  • I used a cast iron pan
  • Season onions.Cut butter into pats and place two on each onion
  • Top with foil and place them in oven or smoker for 45 minutes
  • After 45 min remove foil and top with bacon jam
  • I divided the jar among the 6 onions
  • Let them cook for another 20 minutes, then enjoy !
