Dr. Pepper Candied Bacon

Ingredients

  • 1 LB Bacon Thick Cut
  • 1 C Dr. Pepper 8 fluid oz
  • 1/2 C Brown Sugar light or dark
  • 2 TBSP Maple Syrup
  • 1/4 tsp Cayenne Pepper ground
  • Black Pepper to garnish
  • 1 TBSP Cornstarch +1 TBSP water for thickening slurry

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375F
  • Lay bacon on wire rack in single layer, without touching or overlapping. Brush on Dr. Pepper glaze onto the top side of the bacon liberally to evenly cover the entire strip of thick cut bacon.

Dr. Pepper Glaze

  • Combine all Dr. Pepper, Brown Sugar, Maple Syrup & Cayenne in a saucepan or shallow pan and stir well. Allow to boil, then simmer on low heat for 10 minutes to reduce by about half and thicken.
  • Mix together corn starch and water and stir well. Stir into Dr. Pepper liquid mixture that's simmering, and continue to simmer for 1-2 minutes, until the glaze coats the back of a spoon.
  • Place in preheated oven and let bake for 25-30 minutes. Cook until the bacon is a dark amber color and is glossy from the glaze. If it starts to char/blacken, it's time to take them out.
