Preheat a skillet with enough oil for a shallow fry to 350°.
In a mixing bowl, combine all of the dry ingredients and the onions.
Slowly pour in the milk while stirring until a batter forms.
If the mixture seems too dry, add a little more milk- you're looking for a consistency similar to pancake batter.
Using a spoon, drop the onion mixture into the hot oil and gently flatten each fritter.
Cook until golden brown on both sides.
Remove from the oil and place on a wire rack to allow any excess grease to drain.
Serve warm.
