Philly Cheesesteak Tacos: Easy Ground Chicken or Beef Option

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground chicken
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 small onion sliced
  • 1 red sweet pepper sliced
  • 1 green sweet pepper sliced
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp white pepper
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 tsp ground mustard
  • Salt to taste
  • 8-10 corn tortillas
  • 16-20 slices provolone cheese 2 slices per taco - one inside and one outside
  • 1 12 oz can evaporated milk
  • 10-12 slices white American cheese
  • White pepper
  • Garlic powder
  • Onion powder
  • Ground mustard
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  • Preheat a large skillet over medium heat. Add the olive oil.
  • Add the sliced onion and sweet peppers. Cook until tender and lightly caramelized. Season with the garlic powder, onion powder, white pepper, Worcestershire sauce, ground mustard, and a pinch of salt. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
  • In the same skillet, add the ground chicken. Season with the garlic powder, onion powder, white pepper, Worcestershire sauce, ground mustard, and salt. Cook until browned and fully cooked through.
  • Meanwhile, heat a small amount of oil and lightly fry the corn tortillas until just crispy. Drain on paper towels.
  • Place one slice of provolone cheese on the inside of each tortilla and one slice on the outside. Allow the cheese to melt.
  • Fill each taco with the cooked ground chicken, then top with the sautéed peppers and onions.
  • Generously drizzle with the homemade white American cheese sauce.
  • Serve immediately while hot.
  • Homemade White American Cheese Sauce Instructions
  • In a saucepan, pour in the evaporated milk and heat over medium heat.
  • Add the white American cheese slices one or two at a time, stirring constantly until completely melted and smooth.
  • Season with white pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, ground mustard, and salt to taste.
  • Continue stirring until the sauce is creamy and smooth.
  • Remove from the heat and drizzle generously over the tacos.
