Ingredients & Tools You’ll Need
To whip up this delicious Slow Cooker Steak and Potatoes, you’ll need a few key ingredients. Start with 1.5 to 2 pounds of stew meat. I usually go for a good quality cut to ensure it’s tender and packs a flavor punch.
You’ll also want a 1.5-pound bag of baby potatoes-don’t skip this step, as they’re essential for that comforting vibe.
You’ll need a stick of butter, minced garlic, olive oil, and some all-purpose seasoning along with garlic butter seasoning. These ingredients come together to create a rich, buttery sauce that makes the whole dish sing. Trust me, the butter pats sprinkled on top are what really take it over the edge.
As for tools, you’ll need a slow cooker and a cast iron skillet for searing the meat. If you don’t have a cast iron skillet, any heavy pan will do. Just make sure it’s something that can handle high heat.

And don’t forget a mixing bowl for the potatoes!
How To Make It
Now, let’s get into the fun part-making this delicious meal! The best part about this recipe is how straightforward it is. We’ll start with a little prep and then move on to the cooking.
Get ready to fill your kitchen with mouthwatering aromas!
Preparation
First things first, let’s season that stew meat. Place it on a cutting board or in a bowl and sprinkle it generously with your all-purpose seasoning and garlic butter seasoning. Don’t be shy-this is where you want to build that flavor base.
Let it hang out for a few minutes while you prep the potatoes.
Next, toss those baby potatoes in a mixing bowl. Drizzle them with a tablespoon of olive oil, and add a sprinkle of both seasonings. Give them a good toss to coat evenly.

Now you’re ready to sear the meat, which is crucial for developing that deep, rich flavor.
Cooking
Heat up about 2 tablespoons of olive oil in your cast iron skillet. Once it’s nice and hot, add the seasoned stew meat. Sear it for about 3 to 4 minutes on each side until it’s browned and beautiful.
This step is key-you’re locking in all that juicy goodness.
Once the meat is seared, transfer it to a lightly greased slow cooker. Keep it on one side, and add the seasoned potatoes on the other. Sprinkle the minced garlic over the top, and then dot the butter pats around the meat and potatoes.
Cover it up and set your slow cooker to low for 7 to 8 hours or high for 4 to 5 hours. You’ll know it’s ready when the meat is fall-apart tender. That’s when the magic happens!
Serving & Variations
When it comes time to serve, you can keep it classic with a simple salad or some crusty bread on the side. The buttery sauce is perfect for drizzling over everything, so don’t forget to ladle some over your servings. Leftovers?

They heat up beautifully, making for a quick lunch or dinner later in the week.
If you’re feeling adventurous, consider adding in some veggies like carrots or green beans toward the last hour of cooking. You can also switch up the seasonings to give it a different flair. Maybe add some smoked paprika for a little heat or a dash of Worcestershire sauce for depth.
The possibilities are endless!

There you have it-a hearty, comforting meal that’s as easy as it gets! This Slow Cooker Steak and Potatoes is sure to become a staple in your home, just like it is in mine. I can’t wait for you to try it and share it with your loved ones.
