Ingredients & Tools You'll Need
To whip up this dish, you’ll need some basics that you might already have in your pantry. First up, grab some skirt steak or your choice of beef. I usually go with skirt because it cooks up tender and flavorful.
Then, load up on colorful veggies like bell peppers, broccoli, and sugar snap peas. They add crunch and freshness to the stir fry.
You’ll also need baking soda and coconut aminos to marinate the steak, which helps keep it tender. And don’t forget the sesame oil and that all-important bottle of P.F. Chang’s teriyaki sauce – it’s a game-changer.
Finally, a wok or large skillet is essential to get that perfect stir-fry sizzle.
How To Make It
Let’s dive into how to make this delicious stir fry. We’re going to start with a quick marinade for the steak, then move into the cooking process where all the magic happens. Just follow along, and I promise you’ll impress everyone at the dinner table.
Preparation
First things first, let’s marinate the steak. In a bowl, mix the skirt steak with baking soda and coconut aminos. This combo helps tenderize the meat and gives it a nice flavor kick.
Cover it up and let it sit for about 20 to 25 minutes while you prep your veggies.
Now, chop up those bell peppers, onion, and broccoli into bite-sized pieces. Rinse your sugar snap peas and set everything aside. Having everything prepped means you can cook quickly without any interruptions.
You want to keep that stir fry moving!
Cooking
Heat up your wok or large skillet over medium-high heat, adding sesame oil until it’s hot and shimmering – that’s when you know it’s ready. Toss in the marinated steak and stir-fry it until it’s nicely browned. You’ll hear that satisfying sizzle, and the aroma will be amazing.
Once it’s browned, take it out and set it aside.
In the same pan, add the chopped garlic and cook for about a minute until it’s fragrant. Then, throw in all your veggies and stir-fry them until they're just tender but still crisp. You want that bright color and crunch!
Once the veggies are ready, add the steak back into the pan and pour in the entire bottle of teriyaki sauce. Stir it all together until the sauce thickens and coats everything. That’s when the magic happens!
Serving & Variations
When it comes time to serve, this stir fry is best over a bed of fluffy rice or alongside crispy egg rolls. It’s super satisfying and makes for a complete meal. If you’re feeling adventurous, try adding a sprinkle of sesame seeds or sliced green onions on top for a little extra flair.
A common consensus among home cooks is that adding a splash of lime juice just before serving brightens up the dish and enhances all those flavors. You can also mix in other proteins, like chicken or shrimp, or even make it vegetarian by swapping the meat for tofu. The options are endless, and it’s all about what you love.
Flank steak, sirloin, or ribeye are great options for stir fry due to their tenderness. Yes, you can use tamari or a gluten-free soy sauce as a substitute for regular soy sauce. The entire stir fry process typically takes about 15 to 20 minutes. You can use bell peppers, broccoli, carrots, snap peas, or any vegetables you prefer. Yes, you can prep the ingredients ahead of time, but it's best to cook the stir fry fresh for optimal flavor and texture.Frequently Asked Questions
