Ingredients & Tools You'll Need

A man wearing glasses and a dark apron uses tongs to transfer a cooked steak onto a white plate with two pieces of herb butter. A cast iron skillet sits on the stove below, with visible steam rising.

For this recipe, you’ll need two ribeye steaks about an inch thick, which are perfect for getting that tender, juicy bite. I like to use Cajun seasoning from Allquedup Bayou Bandit, but feel free to choose your favorite blend. Don’t skimp on the butter either; you’ll need two sticks at room temperature to create that delicious compound butter.

You’ll also want some fresh parsley and Creole mustard for added flavor. As for tools, grab a skillet for cooking and some plastic wrap to roll your butter into a log. With these ingredients and tools, you’re all set to create something spectacular.

How To Make It

Making Cajun Butter Ribeyes is straightforward and fun. Once you have everything prepped, you’ll see just how easy it is to put together this flavorful dish. Let’s break it down into preparation and cooking steps so you can nail it every time.

A man wearing a hat and apron places a seasoned steak into a cast iron pan on an induction cooktop in a kitchen with wooden cabinets.

Preparation

Start by mixing the room-temperature butter, Creole mustard, parsley, and 3-4 teaspoons of your Cajun seasoning in a bowl. This is where you’ll create that rich, flavorful compound butter that’ll elevate your steaks. After combining everything, lay a piece of plastic wrap on the counter, place the butter mixture in the center, and roll it into a log shape.

Once you’ve got your butter rolled up, pop it in the fridge for about 2-3 hours until it’s firm. At the same time, season your ribeye steaks with the remaining Cajun seasoning and let them hang out in the fridge too. This allows the flavors to really soak in. About an hour before you’re ready to cook, take the steaks out and let them come to room temperature.

Cooking

Now it’s time to get cooking! Heat some olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Once it’s shimmering, add your ribeyes to the pan. You’ll want to cook them for about 3 minutes on each side. Trust me, you’ll hear that satisfying sizzle that lets you know you’re on the right track.

As you’re nearing the end of the cooking time, add a scoop of that delicious Cajun butter to the skillet. This is where most recipes go wrong: they forget to baste the steak with butter, which adds incredible flavor and moisture. Once your steaks reach that perfect medium-rare doneness, with a nice sear on the outside and a juicy center, remove them from the heat and let them rest for a few minutes before serving.

Serving & Variations

When it comes to serving these Cajun Butter Ribeyes, the sky’s the limit! Slice them up and serve alongside creamy mashed potatoes or a crisp salad. You can even add grilled corn on the cob for that perfect summer vibe.

A common consensus among home cooks is that letting your steaks rest after cooking is crucial. It allows the juices to redistribute, resulting in a more flavorful bite. If you have any leftovers, don’t worry; these steaks are just as tasty the next day, whether cold in a sandwich or reheated gently.

Feel free to experiment with different seasonings or even add a splash of Worcestershire sauce to the butter for a little extra kick. The beauty of this dish is that you can customize it to suit your taste.
